Meet the guys from DOWN CYCLES, the oldest DH shop in New York.
AJ and his crew are located just about 45 minutes north of Midtown Manhattan.

1. How long have you been the business of selling bikes?
Nine Years

2. Tell us about your customers. What are they riding these days? Downhill, the local trail loop, lunchtime road rides?
XC and DH

3. What do you think of the riding options in your area?
I’m a product of my environment. The trails around these parts are amazing!

4. Are you involved in local bike advocacy? How?
Yes. I am involved in trail maintenance. I also design/build new trails and make suggestions about how to make an old trail flow and or cause less erosion.

5. How often do you, yourself, get out and ride?
Whenever possible. Usually 2 times a week and DH race weekends.

6. What is your favorite model in the 2008 IH line?
The Sunday is my favorite model. It has always been my favorite, since 05.

7. Where do you see mountain biking in 5 years?
Mountain biking is growing at a steady rate. I feel all racers will get the credit they deserve and DH will be an Olympic sport.

8. What’s the greatest challenge when helping a rider, rookie to veteran, find the right bike?
Getting them to walk through the door of my shop rather than purchasing online! I will set them up with the proper bike once they’re inside Down Cycles.

Meet A Dealer - MOJO WHEELS, Denver

Meet MOJO Wheels of Denver, Colorado.
They're located at 5790 West Dartmouth and home to one of the largest DH and Freeride showrooms you'll find anywhere. We caught up with Lisa and she gave us the facts....

1. How long have you been the business of selling bikes?

17 years, since 1991

2. Tell us about your customers. What are they riding these days? Downhill, the local trail loop, lunchtime road rides?

We are a mountain bike only shop, no road here. We specialize in long travel DH and Freeride bikes.

3. What do you think of the riding options in your area?

Keystone is our training area for our DH team. We have the biggest gravity team in the country (60 racers).

4. Are you involved in local bike advocacy? How?

We are presently helping Idaho Springs build DH, Freeride, and a bike park. We also dig out keystone every year for opening day.

5. How often do you, yourself, get out and ride?

Everyone in the shop rides, most of the guys race too. We have weekly training sessions at the local BMX track, in the summer it is all Keystone.

6. What is your favorite model in the 2008 IH line?

World Cup of course.

7. Where do you see mountain biking in 5 years?

Increased parks and DH only trails. Wishful thinking.

8. What is the greatest challenge when helping a rider, rookie to veteran, find the right bike?

We tell new riders to ride as many bikes in their price range, before doing research (research confuses people) and buy on fit and feel, rather than reviews or friends opinions. Pick a local shop, that you trust so service and warranties are never an issue.

Maxxis Gravity Team on Iron Horse in 2008

Iron Horse Bicycle Company announces today that they will be the official frame supplier of the Maxxis Tires Gravity Team for the 2008 race season. Maxxis team riders will use the dw-link equipped Iron Horse Sunday for downhill events and MkIII model frames for mountain cross races.

The Iron Horse Sunday is one of the most sought-after mountain bikes in the world. With a pedigree that includes victories in World Championship, World Cup Series Overall, World Cup, National Championship, and US Open competitions, the Sunday has become the bike-of-choice for the sport’s best athletes and discerning riders.

The 2008 Maxxis Team gravity roster is stacked with talent. Joining Maxxis for the 2008 campaign is defending back-to-back World Champion and 2007 World Cup Series Champion Sabrina Jonnier. Luke Strobel, the top American on the World Cup circuit, and 2006 Junior World Champion Cameron Cole both continue with the program for 2008. Team Maxxis will compete the UCI World Cup circuit, the NMBS series events, and other selected top-tier events throughout the world.

Maxxis and Iron Horse have a long history of working together. Maxxis has been a tire sponsor of Iron Horse teams and riders and Iron Horse has used Maxxis tires as original equipment specification for the past 10 years.

Maxxis Tires Bicycle Manager Christopher Warrick comments:
We’re excited to have Iron Horse supporting the gravity side of the team this year. It’s obvious their bikes are fast, as they’ve delivered back-to-back world championships for both men and women. A great bike, like the Iron Horse Sunday, will make a great rider even better.
Christopher went on to say,
I can’t wait to get the season started. We’ve put together a great team of riders and sponsors and feel as though the quality of the team’s equipment will work to our advantage.

Iron Horse Marketing Manager Todd Seplavy commented:
We are very pleased to be partnering with Team Maxxis for the upcoming season as their official frame sponsor. Iron Horse and Maxxis have had a strong relationship for the past decade. This is an extension of our partnership and an opportunity to expand the Iron Horse brand out to even more people and more events.

Sean Heimdal of the World Championship Monster Energy/Iron Horse team added:
Maxxis has a great reputation for putting together excellent race programs and supporting the best riders in the sport. We are looking forward to working with the Maxxis team in our shared goal of winning races and championships.

Iron Horse Extreme Endurance Team

Team extreme-endurance.com has evolved!

US mountain bike manufacturer Iron Horse and top UK endurance race team extreme-endurance.com have just announced they will be joining forces for the 2008 season. Extreme-endurance.com, headed by Team Manager and 2005 solo 24 hour world masters champion Rob Lee, will be re-launched as Iron Horse Extreme for the forthcoming season.

Rob, who won the Solo race at both the Nightrider 12 hour and the Bontrager 24 hour this summer, commented:
“This is a great move for our team and also a great move for Iron Horse. We have some of the best 24 and 12 hour soloists riding for us next year and it is fitting that we are teaming up with Iron Horse, who are clearly an innovative company with great products”.

Now heading into their 4th season, Extreme are well known for their extraordinary successes in 12 and 24 hour solo racing in the UK enduro scene. The highlight of their 2007 campaign saw them take both first and second in the mens solo 24 at Mountain Mayhem and follow that up a month later with wins in both the mens and womens solo 24 at the Bontrager Twentyfour12. Always present at the major enduro events they look set to continue as a force to be reckoned with in the solo next season.

Martin Astley, Iron Horse UK Brand Manger explained;
“We are all really excited about this collaboration; it marks an important point in the history of Iron Horse as we attempt to carry our success from the downhill arena in to other markets. The team will be riding Azure Expert bikes which are renowned as being one of the fastest platforms out there so the competition better watch out! I am looking forward to working with Rob and the team in 2008, getting some great results and hopefully having some good times along the way!”

The team line-up for 2008 is as follows:

Rob Lee
The 2007 solo winner of both the Nightrider 12 and the Bontrager 24 Rob has been an established soloists since 2003 when he won his first attempt at Dusk ‘til Dawn 12 hour. He has raced all over the world, twice represented his country and won races on the road, time trial, duathlon, xc, enduro and in 12 and 24 hour racing in teams, pairs and as a soloist. He is the only UK soloist to have won a title (Masters 30-34) at the 24 Hours of Adrenalin World Solo Championships.

Anthony White
One of the best established, and highly regarded, soloists on the UK scene Ant has stood on both the Mountain Mayhem 24 hour and Dusk ‘til Dawn 12 hour solo podium more times than any other rider. 2007 saw him lap the field at Mayhem to take a well deserved win and one that he hopes to repeat in the not so distant future.

James Leavesley
Another stalwart of UK endurance racing James has been regularly making the podium in 24 hour solo races since 2003. This season saw him take his best ever result, and complete a team one-two, by finishing second at Mountain Mayhem 24 hour. This season he will be looking to go one step higher and take the win in a major 24.

Fi Spotswood
The newest member of the team Fi has come from adventure racing where she had already established herself as one the best female competitors in the country. 2007 was her first serious attempt at mountain bike soloing and she impressed many, with 4th place, at Mountain Mayhem in her first solo 24 hour attempt. Next season she hopes to build on her initial success and become an established racer on the UK scene.

Clive Forth
An endurance down-hill specialist Clive competes in the Sprint Avalanche and Mega Avalanche International race series. 2007 saw him finish on the Masters podium in several rounds of the Sprint Avalanche and take 2nd overall in the series.

Josh Ibbett
As a second year Development rider with the team Josh will be looking to build on the progress he made in 2007. As a past Junior winner (and best first timer) of the Three Peaks cyclocross and overall winner of several races in xc and enduro he has shown potential to develop into a class rider in the future.

Gavin Atkins
As the senior team coach Gavin has been influential in many of the teams victories over the past three seasons and will continue to do so in 2008. A class rider in his own right Gavin has won races on the road, time trialing, team 12 and 24 hour, has represented his country twice at the World Championships, as a Junior and 13 years later as a Master, and has won National rounds and titles in both xc and hill climb.

Brendan Fairclough Signs With Team Monster Energy/Iron Horse

19-year-old British downhill star Brendan Fairclough announced today that he
has just signed a two-year deal with one of the most successful teams on the
International Mountain Bike circuit, Team Monster Energy/Iron Horse. The
signing of the former Honda Team G-Cross rider will see Brendan lining up
alongside four time World Champion and defending World Cup Series Champion,
Australian Sam Hill.

The team will have Brendan competing in all the World Cup races, as well as
key major events such as Sea Otter Classic, US Open, Crankworx, and selected
British NPS events. Brendan will be racing the dw-link equipped Iron Horse
Sunday for all of his downhill competitions.

Brendan flew to the US over the Thanksgiving holiday to meet with the team
and had this to say:

"Joining Team Monster Energy/Iron Horse is a major deal for me. I'm excited
to be racing on a team that has a great image in the sport and is known for
supporting its riders. I've been lucky to have had excellent team mates like
Steve Peat, Greg Minnaar, and Matti Lehikoinen throughout my young career,
and being part of Team Monster Energy/Iron Horse is a continuation of that.
Next year I have some pretty specific goals, not the least of which is
grabbing some crystal at the end of the World Cup season when the series
finishes on a track that Sam and I love, Schladming. I can't wait to get
racing next year!"

Iron Horse Marketing Manager Todd Seplavy was equally enthused:

"We're excited to have Brendan come fly the Monster Energy/Iron Horse colors
for us and were really looking forward to having him grow with our program.
We've been impressed with Brendan's riding skills, professionalism, and
personality from the first time he blasted onto the World Cup scene. He'll
be a perfect fit onto our program and a valuable asset to all of our
sponsors."

Team Director Sean Heimdal added:

"This was a logical step for us in 2008. I wanted to put together a leading
two-man team and when thinking of a rider that could come into our program
and compliment Sam, as well as learn and grow, well Brendan was my first
choice. Having him here over the past few days has been excellent and we
can't wait to get him on a bike for testing."

Brendan's first race with Team Monster Energy/Iron Horse will be the Sea
Otter Classic in April of 2008.

World Cup Series Champions

Sam Hill and Sabrina Jonnier Grab Overall Series Titles at Maribor

Holbrook, NY

This past weekend in Maribor, Slovenia, Sam Hill continued his season-long domination by winning the 2007 World Cup Series' final race as well as claiming the World Cup Downhill Series Overall Championship. Teammate Sabrina Jonnier took home 6th place in the Women's Elite Downhill event and also secured the World Cup Downhill Series Overall Championship.

After a five-year hiatus, the UCI World Cup Series returned to Maribor for the 2007 Series Final. A mix of roots, loamy soil, and tight turns, the course had become a bit of a legend since last hosting a World Cup round in 2002. The course was described by riders all weekend simply as "fun to ride" and as an added bonus, weather conditions remained perfect throughout the event with clear skies and temperatures in the mid-20's C/70's F.

In the weekend's main event, Sam Hill followed up on his World Championship in Scotland the previous weekend by taking the win in Slovenia. Hill raced his dw-link equipped Iron Horse Sunday to a 1.33 second win over second place rider Gee Atherton. Hill finished the course in a time of 2:53.78 minutes. "Maribor was awesome", said Hill. "I finally managed to win the World Cup Series, which was a big goal for me. I had been second for three years in a row and wanted to get the win pretty bad. I have had an amazing year, the whole team has helped to get the World Cup Series Championship and hopefully next year can be even more successful." This was Sam's third World Cup win of the season and his first World Cup Series Championship.

Battling illness all week, Jonnier wasn't feeling up to par, but still gave it her all to finish the season on top. Sabrina said of her race run "I have been sick all week. I tried to go because I love to win, but I didn't have any energy on the pedaling sections. I just couldn't go quick." She then added, "I got 6th today but I won the overall, so that's always good." This was Sabrina's third World Cup Downhill Series Overall title.

With Sabrina's title the Monster Energy/Iron Horse Team also secured the women's Downhill Trade Team Title. Team mechanic Jacy Shumilack joined Sabrina on the podium to accept the award.

The Monster Energy/Iron Horse Team finishes out the season with an impressive collection of victories and titles in 2007 including two World Championships, two World Cup Series Overall titles, five World Cup wins, European Championships in downhill and 4X, French National Champion, and wins at the Sea Otter dual slalom, US Open, Psychosis, and Crankworx Garbanzo downhill events.

UCI World Champions

Sam Hill and Sabrina Jonnier Defend Downhill Titles In Scotland

Holbrook, NY

Monster Energy/Iron Horse teammates Sam Hill (Australia) and Sabrina Jonnier (France) stood atop the podium at the UCI World Championships for the second straight year with repeat perfomances as Elite Downhill World Champions.

The World Championships, held annually, are considered by many to be the greatest and most prestigious event in the sport of mountain biking. Riders from around the globe were in attendance with hopes of earning the right to wear the traditional white jersey with rainbow stripes for the following year. Monster Energy/Iron Horse riders, Hill and Jonnier, once again proved themselves to be the greatest at this most prestigious event. This year's edition of the World Championships was held in Fort William, Scotland on the slopes of Ben Nevis, the highest peak in the United Kingdom. Fort William has become a favorite of both fans and competitors since becoming a perennial host of a UCI World Cup Mountain Bike Series round in 2002.

In the women's competition, Sabrina qualified fifth in Thursday's qualifier run but pulled out all of the stops to put together her World Championship winning run on Sunday. In her final run, Sabrina raced her dw-link equipped Iron Horse Sunday across the line with a winning time of 5:28.35 minutes, 4.01 seconds ahead of second place finisher Rachel Atherton of Great Britain. "It means a lot to me to win again." said Jonnier. "I hadn't really done well on the Fort William track in the past, so I knew I had to work really hard for my second World Championship. I trained really hard for this and I'm really happy that all my hard work and the hard work of my team paid off."

In the marquis event of the weekend, Sam Hill captured his second straight Downhill World Championship on his Iron Horse Sunday. After qualifying in 24th position in Thursday's qualifier, Sam was among the first of the favorites for the win to come down the course on Saturday afternoon. Coming across the line with a time of 4:52.01 minutes over the 1.75 mile course, Hill was the first rider to set a sub 5 minute time - knocking early pace setter Pasqual Canals Flix (Spain) off the hot seat. As the winds picked up and the rain began to fall heavier, only second place finisher Fabien Barel (France) would end up challenging Sam's mark, falling a slim 0.64 seconds short.

Hill commented, "Winning the World Champs for me is huge. It's been my biggest goal since I started racing downhill. I feel like I have achieved a lot. Winning for the second year in a row feels just as good as the first because it's a lot harder to try and defend it." Hill then added, "Now I'm going to have to try and back it up next year."

In addition to the wins by Sam and Sabrina, Ruaridh Cunningham of Scotland claimed the Junior Downhill World Championship on board an Iron Horse Sunday Factory frame. In the Elite Men's race, Iron Horse sponsored rider Ben Reid (Ireland) finished 14th, Duncan Riffle (USA) finished 27th, and Kieran Bennett (New Zealand) was 43rd. Aussie Junior National Champion Mitch Delfs finished up 4th in the Junior race.

The next stop for the Monster Energy/Iron Horse team is the World Cup Finals at Maribor, Slovenia on September 15-16. Sam and Sabrina both go into Maribor leading the World Cup Series point standings.
